About the Job

Bancroft Construction Services is seeking a qualified on-call Commercial Pesticide Applicator / Environmental Field Technician to support vegetation management, pest control, and environmental compliance activities on construction and infrastructure projects throughout California. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who enjoys hands-on fieldwork, problem-solving in active construction environments, and working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.

This is an on-call, project-based position with variable hours depending on project needs and may require short-notice deployment.

Position Summary

This field-based position is responsible for the safe and compliant application of pesticides, herbicides, and related treatments in accordance with federal, state, and project-specific regulations. The role includes supporting environmental compliance activities, documenting field operations, and coordinating closely with construction crews and environmental staff. The position requires frequent travel throughout the state of California and the ability to work independently in dynamic outdoor and construction settings.

Responsibilities

  • Apply pesticides, herbicides, and other approved treatments in compliance with California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) requirements
  • Perform vegetation management and invasive species control on construction and infrastructure projects
  • Maintain compliance with all label instructions, safety protocols, and permit conditions
  • Conduct site inspections before and after pesticide applications
  • Implement environmental protection measures, buffers, and exclusion zones as required
  • Maintain and calibrate application equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Accurately document applications, quantities, locations, and environmental conditions
  • Prepare daily field logs and compliance documentation
  • Coordinate directly with construction crews, supervisors, and environmental staff
  • Travel to project sites throughout California, including overnight travel as needed

Qualifications & Skills

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid California Pesticide Applicator License (or Qualified Applicator License/Certificate, as applicable)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience applying pesticides or performing vegetation management in field settings
  • Knowledge of California pesticide regulations, safety procedures, and environmental compliance requirements
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License and ability to travel independently throughout California
  • Ability to work outdoors in variable weather, terrain, and construction environments
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational, and communication skills
  • Flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and overnight travel
  • U.S. Citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on transportation, utility, or large-scale construction projects
  • Familiarity with environmental compliance or biological monitoring requirements
  • Experience using GPS units, mobile data collection apps, or field reporting software
  • Additional environmental certifications or licenses

Work Environment

This position is field-intensive and may involve:

  • Long hours outdoors in varying weather and temperature extremes
  • Walking or hiking on uneven terrain while carrying equipment and supplies
  • Working on active construction sites around heavy machinery
  • Frequent travel throughout California

Compensation & Employment Status

  • Hourly Rate: $38-58/hr.
  • Employment Type: On-call / project-based
